ignition key

Post by Guy » Sat Feb 17, 2018 4:30 pm

On my 84 SS the ignition key is difficult to remove from the ignition switch when the switch is in the off position. I have to slam the console shift lever hard into park to remove the key. Is the switch defective, or is there an adjustment that needs to be made?

If your car still has the linkage from the trans to the steering column, I believe that is adjustable. There should be a cross linkage from the trans to a bracket on the frame and then one that comes down from the steering column to the cross linkage. I believe that's where you can adjust it. On mine car that linkage is gone, since I have headers and 3" exhaust. I just rotate the column if the key don't come out.

Thanks for the info. My car is factory original, so the linkage is there. It has a turbo 350 in it now. I will be installing a 200r4 soon to cut the RPMS down on the highway.

There is a "Z" bar from the linkage to trans, the nylon bushings may be worn
