Deleting lower aluminum trim from base model!

Post by js8187 » Thu Jul 07, 2016 6:51 pm

I have a 1981 base Monte. I am deleting the lower trim from car but don't want it changed to look like an SS. The rear side marker will work with the bezel from the SS but the front is designed for either the aluminum trim/ bezel or the fender extension/ bezel from the SS. Has anyone on here seen something or done something for the front sidelights on a trim delete on base? Thanks for any comments!

I have an 81 landau, and also don't really like all the glitter metal. How is your project going, and if you did remove the lower trim garnish, how did it turn out? What was your process like, meaning door panel removal if needed, etc.?
More questions regarding the engine/ transmission/exhaust...I had a V6 (229) that died and I replaced it with a 350 from Phoenix Engines. The old TH250 also went away for a TH350 from TCI. Have you had problems with dip stick location, headers, and transmission cross member?
Any thoughts appreciated.

I removed the lower trim in 1995 or 1996 from my 81. There was a lot of rust underneath the trim that had to be repaired. It was white at the time. I painted it black. We left the stock nose on at first but it looked bad. We changed it over to an SS nose. In hindsight, this took a lot of work.
