Removed dead V6 and th250 from 81 MC landau. Discovered too late that 350 V8 engine I bought to replace the V6 has a driver side dip stick which means I have to install headers. The engine is a 500 series from the years 1987 to 1992 with Vortec heads, straight plugs and 1 5/8 oval ports.
My questions are:
what is the thing about clam-shell motor mounts that I see in the header ads?
Is there a set of short headers, (can't use center dumps because of cross member under engine), that are reasonably symmetrical that don't need to be bashed to clear steering, etc?
Now for a strange question. I looked into the small, 3 and 4 inch dia. glasspack mufflers. Has anyone tried to hook two of them in line for each bank to cut the sound level? Having flow-through mufflers would make sense in lowering back pressure, and I'd like a quieter sound.
Any other thoughts here greatly appreciated, or, I am at: firstname.lastname@example.org
